1. TV Asahi highly regards its social responsibility and public duty, and from a position of political impartiality, will convey the truth and remain just, in addition to enhancing the virtue of broadcasting and protecting the freedom of expression. In broadcasting, TV Asahi shall make use of its commercial broadcasting features, exercise a rich and diverse, sound and refreshing programming policy, contribute to the progress of culture and reach of knowledge. Furthermore, TV Asahi shall provide accurate and timely news reports, valuable lifestyle information, and a wide variety of entertainment, and as a just medium for advertising, contribute to the welfare of the public and prosperity of the industrial economy, and fulfill the expectations and trust of society.

2. In programming, TV Asahi shall retain balance among news programs, educational programs, cultural programs, entertainment programs and advertisements, and shall consider the daily schedule of viewers in determining the order or programming. With regard to the content of the programs, TV Asahi shall engage with internal and external advisory bodies, strive to improve quality and virtue of its content, and achieve broadcasting that is universal and enriches the lives of the viewers.

Based on the above basic policy, the types of programs to be programmed are as follows.

(1) News programs
News programs shall be news, live coverage, commentary on current affairs, and journalistic reviews. The qualities distinct to television journalism will be exercised, and facts will be handled accurately, promptly, and justly.
The same applies to sports programs.

(2) Educational programs
Educational programs shall be those that further viewers’ lifelong self-development in areas such as academia, arts, performing arts, and technology, as well as those that lead to skill development and building competence. In broadcasting, the subject will be presented clearly, and useful and appropriate content will be effectively programmed.

(3) Cultural programs
Cultural programs shall be those that broaden the public’s knowledge and understanding in various fields such as society, economics, science, literature, and the arts, cultivate compassion and nurture ethics, and serve as an information source that enables viewers to enrich their lives. In broadcasting, consideration will be given to make clear the intent of the program and ensure easy viewing.

(4) Entertainment programs
Entertainment programs shall be those that consist of a wide range of topics that bring joy and comfort to viewers and offer a source of energy for the coming day, such as dramas, varieties, music, movies and performances. In broadcasting, consideration will be given to ensure the programs are conducive to a healthy social life and offer entertainment.

(5) Advertisements
Broadcasting of advertisements shall be considered so that it may be available to many business entities, and shall contribute to the public welfare and prosperity of the industrial economy by providing various forms of information that are useful to viewers’ lives. In broadcasting, advertising broadcasts will be justly carried out by utilizing internal and external assessment organizations.

3. Standards and limits to be observed in the planning, production and execution of programs and advertisements will be governed by “The Japan Commercial Broadcasters Association BROADCASTING STANDARDS.”
