What are the business segments TV Asahi is involved in?

Our programming schedule is renewed on a semi-annual basis. The Spring Programming Season starts in April and the Fall Programming Season starts in October. Special programming weeks are scheduled at the start and end of the programming seasons, and also at the end and beginning of the calendar year. Minor changes in the programming schedule, such as slotting new drama series, take place also in July and January.

On a consolidated basis, TV Asahi divides its businesses into the following three segments:
TV Broadcasting Business
Music Publication Business
Other Businesses

"TV Broadcasting Business" is further categorized into "Network Time Sales," "Spot Sales," "Sales of Programs" and "Others."

On a non-consolidated basis, our net sales is comprised of two segments: "TV Broadcasting" and "Other Businesses." "TV Broadcasting" is further divided "Network Time Sales," "Spot Sales," "Sales of Programs" and "Others."

What are the four categories in "TV Broadcasting?"

"Network Time Sales" refers to sales revenue from program sponsorships, i.e., selling commercial time slots in a program. "Network Time Sales" can be broken down into two categories: "Network Sales" and "Local Sales." When a program is aired simultaneously nationwide with the same commercials, revenues from selling such commercial time is accounted for under "Network Sales." The actual sales activities are handled by TV Asahi and revenue is distributed accordingly among the relevant network stations. On the other hand, "Local Sales" refers to revenue from commercials that are run during a program and aired only within the Tokyo area.
"Spot Sales" refers to sales revenue from commercial time not related to any particular program, i.e., selling commercial time of slots between different programs.
"Sales of Programs" refers to sales revenue from programs without any commercials.
"Others" refers to revenue from our consolidated subsidiaries' businesses, such as production/co-production of programs. It also includes revenue from sales of merchandising rights and program productions commissioned by our affiliate company BS Asahi and CS broadcasters.

What businesses are included under "Other Businesses?"

"Other Businesses" includes various business activities peripheral to broadcasting business. Major businesses include TV shopping, special events production, sales of DVDs and videos, internet related business and investments in motion pictures. Our consolidated companies are also involved in sales/lease of broadcasting equipment, insurance underwriting business, etc.

In 1977, the name of the company was changed to "Asahi National Broadcasting Company Limited" ("TV Asahi" in abbreviation) and as of October 1, 2003, the official company name has been changed to "TV Asahi Corporation."
